AZT specialists can assess the integrity of fire-damaged structures and
determine whether machinery and equipment can be reused. In the case of
metal components, for example, they can detect potentially dangerous changes
in materials due to overheating and sudden cooling by the water used to
extinguish the fire. The use of special equipment for on-scene examination
makes it possible to come to helpful conclusions. AZT personnel use both
standard procedures as well as their own specific techniques such as, for
example, grain imprints. On the other hand, certain details can be detected
only upon extreme magnification with the use of a scanning electron
microscope.
